Economic, Social and Cultural Rights

As the main victims of socio-economic and cultural rights are the poor and marginalized sections of society, we seek to advance the promotion, respect and protection of a wide range of socio-economic rights with a priority focus on the poor that include rights to adequate standard of living, housing, and education. Furthermore, we seek to ensure the protection of cultural rights, thereby enhancing the enjoyment of culture and its components, such as participation in one’s own culture and access to education in one’s own language, in conditions of equality, human dignity and non-discrimination.

Through research and advocacy, we promote normative clarity, justiciability, enforceability and ultimately the enjoyment of economic, social and cultural rights; we monitor the degree of compliance with the normative requirements of these rights, and we work towards ensuring the interdependence, indivisibility and interrelatedness of human rights.
