The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission joins all those mourning the loss of Professor Mesfin Woldemariam, whose passing was announced on 30 September, 2020. He will be remembered as one of Ethiopia’s greatest champions of human rights.
A towering figure of human rights advocacy in Ethiopia, Professor Mesfin lived a life of unwavering commitment to his values over the course of several decades, often paying a heavy price in the form of imprisonment. He was a founding member of the Ethiopian Human Rights Council, the country’s oldest human rights organization. The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission sends its heartfelt condolences to his family. Our thoughts are with his loved ones and the many more who were touched by Professor Mesfin’s spirit.
