African Union Transitional Justice Policy (Section.19)
Transitional Justice refers to the various (formal and traditional or non-formal) policy measures and institutional mechanisms that societies, through an inclusive consultative process, adopt in order to overcome past violations, divisions and inequalities.
A comprehensive approach to Transitional Justice comprises four interrelated and mutually reinforcing components:
- Truth-seeking and telling;
- Accountability;
- Reparation for victims and
- Guarantee of non-recurrence.
