The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) conducted a peer exchange visit to Ghana’s Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) in Accra, Ghana, from February 9–10, 2026. The visit followed EHRC’s participation in the General Assembly and the 15th Biennial Conference of the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI), held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, from February 4–6, 2026.

The exchange brought together EHRC Chief Commissioner Berhanu Adello and senior officials of CHRAJ in a structured peer dialogue aimed at sharing experiences on strengthening institutional governance and operational best practices between the two A-status National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs). CHRAJ’s strong governance frameworks and active regional engagement make it an important peer and learning partner for NHRIs across Africa.

During the visit, CHRAJ shared experiences of relevance to the work of EHRC, including its monitoring of Ghana’s 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections; its strategic plan review process and preparation of CHRAJ’s 2026–2030 strategic plan; engagement with Parliament to ensure the implementation of its recommendations; business and human rights, complaint handling follow-up and implementation of CHRAJ’s decisions and efforts undertaken to enhance CHRAJ’s accessibility to the public.

With both EHRC and CHRAJ currently reviewing and preparing their respective 2026–2030 strategic plans and with CHRAJ as the outgoing Chair of NANHRI and EHRC as the incoming Vice Chair, the visit provided a timely and valuable opportunity for mutual learning and peer exchange.

Chief Commissioner Berhanu Adello appreciated the warm welcome and hospitality extended during the visit and underscored that the exchange provided an effective venue to strengthen the relationship between the two NHRIs and advance the protection and promotion of human rights in both countries.
