Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015-2030)፡

The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 was adopted at the Third UN World Conference in Sendai, Japan, on March 18, 2015. The Sendai Framework is the successor instrument to the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) 2005-2015: Building the Resilience of Nations and Communities to Disasters.

This framework requires states to put a strong emphasis on disaster risk management as opposed to disaster management. It also provides the definition of seven global targets for disaster risk management, the reduction of disaster risk as an expected outcome, a goal focused on preventing new risk, reducing existing risk, and strengthening resilience, as well as a set of guiding principles, including primary responsibility of states to prevent and reduce disaster risk, all-of-society and all-of-State institutions engagement.
