Senior Citizens have the human right to protection in Conflict and Disaster Situation. (Protocol to ACHPR on the rights of older persons in Africa, Article 14)
State parties to this protocol shall:-
Ensure that in situation of risk, including natural calamities, conflict situations, during civil strife or wars, older persons shall be among those to enjoy access, on a priority basis, to assistance during rescue efforts, settlement, repatriation, and other interventions.
Ensure that older persons receive humane treatment, protection and respect at all times and are not left without needed medical assistance and care.
They have an obligation to adopt legislative and other measures to give effect to this protection. (Article 2)
