Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa (Maputo Protocol), Article 19 (a) (c)
Women shall have the right to fully enjoy their right to sustainable development. States Parties shall take all appropriate measures to:
- Introduce the gender perspective in the national development planning procedures;
- Promote women’s access to and control over productive resources such as land and guarantee their right to property.

Women have the right to full consultation in the formulation of national development policies, the designing and execution of projects, and particularly in the case of projects affecting the interests of women.
