The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) delegation, led by the Chief Commissioner Berhanu Adello, has begun its official visit to the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) in Copenhagen. The visit aims to strengthen cooperation between the two National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), renew their partnership, and advance shared priorities in experience-sharing and capacity development.

The delegation received a warm welcome from Mette Thygesen, International Director, and Marie Kruse, Africa Department Director, who expressed DIHR’s continued commitment to supporting collaborative initiatives with EHRC. The team also met with Louise Holck, Executive Director, who provided an insightful presentation on DIHR’s and European Network of National Human Rights Institutions’ (ENNHRI’s) strategy development processes, providing a valuable platform for discussing methodologies, institutional learning, and strategic planning within NHRIs.

The Chief Commissioner expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality, acknowledged the DIHR team for their ongoing partnership, and underlined EHRC’s commitment to fulfilling its mandate. The visit is part of the multi-year partnership between the two NHRIs, which has been in place since 2019.

Discussions will continue over the next days, with the EHRC delegation engaging in technical sessions, thematic briefings, and external visits. The focus areas include sharing experiences and best practices in legal frameworks, monitoring mandates in complex contexts, data management, capacity assessment, and promoting equal treatment thereby further strengthening collaboration, institutional learning and partnership between the two institutions.
