The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is deploying a mission to Amhara Regional State to investigate reports of shelling, killings, looting and displacement of civilians in yet another worrying escalation of the spread of the Tigray Conflict. The Commission has confirmed the identity of the members of the same family who were killed by a reported shelling by TPLF in Debre Tabor, South Gondar Zone on the afternoon of August 19, 2021. They included Wudie Wale (age 50), Esubalew Dires (age 23), Addisalem Dires (age 18), Dr Serkalem Dires (age 26) and Amiel Dires (4 months old). Two other civilians, who were tenants of the family, were also injured.
While the widening scale of the conflict continues to be alarming and impacting civilian lives and the humanitarian situation, EHRC reiterates its urgent call to all parties of the conflict to ensure the protection of civilians.
