Human Rights Concept of the Week
March 7 – 11, 2022
The Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa (Maputo Protocol) enshrines the State’s obligation to combat all forms of discrimination against women through appropriate legislative, institutional and other measures.
Equality between women and men/girls and boys is recognized under the Ethiopian Constitution and in international human rights instruments Ethiopia has ratified. Yet millions of women and girls across the country continue to experience deep-rooted inequality and discrimination in the enjoyment of their civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights.
