Chief Commissioner of the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) Daniel Bekele welcomed today U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia Ervin Massinga and U.S. Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Mike Hammer at the head office of the Commission for discussion on current human rights situation in the country.

The Chief Commissioner also briefed the delegation on some of the results from the collaborations between EHRC and USAID Ethiopia. Recalling the Commission’s advocacy efforts for the resumption of suspended humanitarian assistance, Daniel Bekele also underscored that the recent developments in this regard come at a critical juncture for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees across the country.

The current human rights situation in Amhara and Oromia regions, the Commission’s work on transitional justice and other ongoing human rights issues, including socio-economic challenges in Ethiopia were also discussed.
