Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa (Maputo Protocol), Article 1(j), 4(2) (a) & 11 (1)
- States Parties shall take appropriate and effective measures to enact and enforce laws to prohibit all forms of violence against women. Violence against women includes acts perpetrated both in peace time and during situations of armed conflicts or of war.
- States Parties undertake to respect and ensure respect for the rules of international humanitarian law applicable in armed conflict situations, which affect the population, particularly women.
