A delegation of the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) led by the Deputy Chief Commissioner, Rakeb Messele is in Banjul, The Gambia, participating in the 73rd Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (the African Commission). The opening ceremony of the Session coincided with “African Human Rights Day” (21 October) which commemorates the entry into force of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights in 1986 – the premier instrument for the promotion and protection of human rights in Africa.

During the session, EHRC will brief Members of the African Commission on the general human rights situation in Ethiopia, and in particular about the situation of women and girls, older persons and persons with disabilities. EHRC will also participate in panel discussions and other activities.
