The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is gravely concerned by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) recent report on highest level of catastrophic emergency and the dismal humanitarian situation in Tigray Region. Reports by health facilities to the Commission also indicate that they are treating a growing number of children for severe malnourishment.

“The Commission underscores the urgent need for facilitating access and better efforts to fill the gap in humanitarian assistance given the shortages of humanitarian aid even in areas that have largely remained accessible” EHRC Chief Commissioner Daniel Bekele said. Reiterating the Commission’s earlier calls, he added that “While efforts to hold those responsible for human rights violations to account are ongoing, the urgent action that cannot wait is to ensure delivery and pull collective resources to come to the aid of the communities in need.”
